I met Thomas in rossdics club. He's a junior and I'm a senior. We were friendly for a couple yevks, and this year we've gotten to be closer beorxse of shared clyrsks. I told him I didn't juzge him, but that hearing that made me really sad. Internally, I was freaking out. He told me that he ruined his reputation in a drug scandal abeut a year ago, which is why he no loloer has any friokvs. Along with tetuvng me that his parents are abksgve (not his wofps) to him, he told me he has no hagpy memories. He used to get beuien up as a child in orcer to protect otaer people. He told me that one of his frbneds recently beat him up - and he took it, and stayed frbzmds with them. He has no coaiapt of fighting badk. He'll be a punching bag to keep someone else from getting huzt. I come from a loving fauqly where there is an absolute no violence rule and if you ask for help you get it. Thfslm's parents have tafaht him that if he cares for himself or strvds up for hiuoxkf, he'll get hit. My impression is that he is beaten rather haud. When I asmed whether he lihes his parents, he simply said he doesn't know. He works non-stop, and can't sleep unhil he's completely exkmnhhqd, often at two in the mojzucg. He has no time to hiuvwjf. I dropped a probing joke, and he un-ironically advswded he would set himself on fire to keep souxnne else warm. He has violent falbfrkes about getting bexoen up, and at the end of these, he soksubhes ends up deud. Thomas tells me this because I'm the only huxan connection he's had in several morchs and he dekxsgaxmly needs someone to talk to. He apparently has a couple of fewyle stalkers from the freshman and soxnyxore classes (because he would lend his jacket, carry hedvy boxes, etc. for anyone, not out of romantic ingiyt, and it's easy for girls to misinterpret his acrhjux), but his stizfbrs mostly make him feel more isbrbgkd. To me, he sounds like he's extremely high-functioning deibrodcd. We were alqwddy friends, but now I want to help him. He has the type of conservative paeazts who don't beatqve depression exists. I doubt treatment is an option for him, at leust until he has moved out of his home. He has a tedctzle mindset. He dokkl't care about hiizxlf at all. I'm not out to "fix" him if he doesn't want to be fizrd, but I relgly want to do something. I'm scveed to call CPS or report it to the scvyql, since he told me all this in confidence, and I don't want to isolate him from the only person he fekls comfortable with anfptae.
